My Rose

My Rose
Photograph by: Karen Holmes

"Of course an ordinary passerby would think my rose looked just like you. But my rose, all on her own, is more important than you altogether, since she's the one I've watered. Since she's the one I put under glass. Since she's the one I sheltered behind a screen. Since she's the one for whom I killed the caterpillars (except for two or three for butterflies). Since she's the one I listened to when she complained, or when she boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing at all.
Since she's my rose."
"It is the time you have lost for your rose that makes your rose so important."
- Antoine de Saint-Exupery (La Petit Prince)

"Creativity is a flower that praise brings to bloom, but discouragement often nips in the bud"
~Alex F. Osborn
your rose brings out the brilliance of your creativity and it is my prayer that you never be discouraged to show the world your rose blooming. And that you continue to lose time creating beauty that has become so important to me and others. With love.

As my tears (happy tears) softly water My Rose - she is yellow and her name is Hope - I am so encouraged by this reminder, Karen. And written as it is by someone who loved and adventured in my Africa as Saint-Exupery did, it beckons me all the more back to all the nurturing and protection energy that, yes, I've lost - or I prefer, invested - in this beautiful and STRONG Rose of mine.
Love, Betsy
