Compassion for Choice

"Who do you think you are?" is a Friday night television series that explores the ancestry of various celebrities. I am utterly fascinated by the threads of talent that insist on expression through the generations of individuals who make up each family. Gifts for art, music, landownership, business, education, and social change are linked with terms like "my eighth grandparent." I am also impressed by how often a family lineage has carried on through the twists of hardships to create something better in their lives; in doing so, they altered next generations of their families and other families within their communities. Most of all, as I watch the stories, I come away with the hope of what it means to be an American, and how as Americans we are intertwined and shaped by the intricate weaving of individual hopes and dreams. We all stand on the shoulders of those who came before us - it is up to us to have compassion and follow the call for choice that exists during our watch. We are a great nation because who we think we are does matter... and it just may be that an eighth generation grandchild will be watching... and become inspired...

I have been brave enough to serve our cause, but I fear unwelcome change is on the horizon.
The generations to come will have many burdens to overcome.
It is the blood of our ancestors that I count on to strengthen me throughout all that I fear. I look forward to another friday night curled up to watch another immigrants journey to our lands.
May GOD bless our country to stand firm in the coming storms.
Amen sister... may we become warmed by the inspirational fires of generations past who have lit a good path for us to follow... xok.
