Train Excitement

If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder,
he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it,
rediscovering with him the joy,
excitement and mystery of the world we live in.
- Rachel Carson

I was waiting for an "adult" friend of mine. We were meeting to have a very "grown up" day of wandering through one of our favorite shops. I chose to wait by these trains, which were not only magnificent but also gathering attention from vibrant children and their families. (If I could have captured the laughter and shouts of joy, I would be giving that to you today also.) In that moment, I shared in the spilling-all-over-the-place excitement. I encourage you to do the same very soon... borrow a child's rendition of this utterly magical season - they are happy to share. And enjoy your own rediscovery "of the world we live in"...

Season's Cheers!

I love to "...borrow a child's rendition of this utterly magical season...". This is going to help me a lot, as Christmas is such a mixed bag for me. I love the meaning of the holiday and miss my faraway family all the more.

Thank you for those words Karen :-)

I loved your post today, as I think we should all be more like "the child." They are so special. The train picture was so bright and pretty, and it reminded me of the train I had years ago that ran around my tree. Brought back some sweet memories. Hope your weekend is fun.

My three grandaughters have a train under their tree that belonged to their Dad. Even my 16 year old grandaughter sits under the tree and watchs it run aroud the track. I don't think the magic of a train ever vanishes. Thanks for the lovely photo.

Oh yes, YES!!!!!!!! We will never grow old in what matters (the spirit) if we just look to see RED (and toy trains too!) Dearest Karen, thank you for such kind words today! May you always see with the eyes of a child...enjoy the season! We out here in Minnesota are having REALLY MILD weather! It almost feels like some of the cooler Los Angeles Christmases I remember as a child!

I love this and will keep that last sentence in my mind each day.
Your story reminds me of when my sister and I were little, she asked Santa for a train and by the end of the day she was saying "Daddy, can I play with my train now!" :) My dad passed away that next year, so this brought back a sweet memory.
Thanks for always giving such beautiful posts.
Wishing you a blessed Season.

Such a true post. I have marveled at my three year old grandson's giving of gifts this seasons. He will wrap up anything around and proclaim it as a gift for you and grin. Oh the spirit of giving in him is to be passed along. Merry Christmas. Patty

I remember a little red haired freckled faced boy being asked constantly to sing "she will be coming around the mountain", but everyone was most gleeful at the "toot-toot" part of the song!
trains, planes and automobiles have brought me home for the holidays often, thanks for the journey down memory (or santa claus) lane! Xoxo
