Whole Wide World... open hands

"I wanna hold the whole wide world right here in my open hands...
maybe I'm just a little girl...
A little girl with great big plans."

- Mindy Gledhill (Whole Wide World)

Do you remember that feeling as a child when you happened to find a lizard on a rock (look closely - he is there), and did not care if your Sunday best got dirty because you were collecting rose petals and dreaming big dreams? Please listen to the song (thank you, Kate, for sharing) and remember the joy of taking chances, and being committed to what others may call a crazy dream.

What are your dreams that open your hands to holding the whole wide world?
I hope you will be inspired to commit to the pleasure of making it happen... see you in a 100 miles...

Pumpkins into Coaches...

"Know you what it is to be a child?
It is to be something very different from the man of today.
It is to have a spirit yet streaming from the waters of baptism;
it is to believe in love,
to believe in loveliness,
to believe in belief;
it is to be so little that the elves can reach to whisper in your ear;
it is to turn pumpkins into coaches,
and mice into horses,
lowness into loftiness,
and nothing into everything,
for each child has its fairy godmother in its own soul"

-Francis Thompson

Wishing you the simply inspiring company of your soul's fairy godmother...

Wise Woman's Stone...

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.
"I've been thinking," he said, "I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone."

This sweet story touches my heart deeply with understanding... I hope it's wisdom will grace your day, too.

Child Chasing Halloween...

Thoughts from A Child Chasing Halloween...

I think I'll be a princess and live in a castle...
I think I'll be a dophin and swim in the sea...
I think I'll be a gypsy and wear hoop earrings and go to France...
I think I'll be a raindrop on an umbrella... or a rainbow in the sky...

Wisdom from a Grownup...
(who wears hoop earrings)

Be it all! Be you - all of you... Magnificent one of a kind you!

October's Mysterious Gift...

"It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life
that no man can sincerely try to help another
without helping himself."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Months ago - when summer heat was at it's hottest - a family of brothers sat down around a dining table and began the lengthy process of discussing and designing this year's Haunted House; they have done this for many years now...

Growing up poor they found magical childhood delight in going to a Haunted House when they were children - and that is where the seeds of this inspired act began. They charge nothing for the Haunted House tour (this is of great importance to them), and it is for one night only: Halloween. Over the years, these brothers have combed corners of the Internet and back lot movie sets to secure the most astonishing items in order to intensely thrill and cause others to grab hold of their deepest fears. (Look beyond the gory details and you will uncover the hidden message: you can survive most anything and do okay - even being poor.)

On Halloween night, as she has done for years now, their mother creates a signature meal of steaming homemade soup to fortify her now grown and successful sons for the long night ahead (she is clearly the one behind the teaching of this nurtured love for others).

When the brothers finally lay down their hammers and complete the scrutiny of a final walk-through, it is time for each of them to put on their fearsome costumes and transform from commonplace into the unexpected and downright scary!

One night. One cultivated childhood vision. One gift of giving back. One Halloween when the brother's hearts are free to express what it truly means to help others - especially children. And in doing so they have helped themselves by keeping alive an inner fire of belief. Behind the gruesome masks and costumes, their little boy smiles mysteriously reappear...

May we all be so bighearted and creative in our respective expressions of helpfulness...

Dream Weaver...

In Memoriam: Steve Jobs - With thanks...

"This has been one of my mantras - focus and simplicity.
Simple can be harder than complex:
You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.
But it is worth it in the end because once you get there,
you can move mountains."
- Steve Jobs

I am grateful for Steve Jobs' contributions and that he stayed so true to his heart, intuition and intention. His dreams weave my life - they allow me to pick up my phone and experience technology, beauty, and connection all in the same moment. May I follow his lead and be as faithful to my own dreams...

Go In Trust...

Go in Trust
By James Dillet Freeman

The wood that is the world is wide
And full of trees from side to side,
So strange a place you cannot see
For certain where the way may be.
To find your way in it, you must
For the most part depend on trust,
And you may take a turn or two
Before you find the right way through,
But when you go in trust, you find
You have a compass in your mind.

I found this poem yesterday. The words resonated with me much like a song you thought you may have forgotten the words to - and then seemingly out of nowhere the words find you and you sing out in gladness. Trees forever inspire me, as does the concept of trust and faith. I wish you trust, peace and inspiration today... and the gift of a remembered song that you thought you may have forgotten the words to...

Doors to open...

"When you follow your bliss...
doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors;
and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else."

- Joseph Campbell

I happen to like the idea of following your bliss (I wish I did more of it). This seems like a good time of year to find a door that leads in a new direction toward your own bliss. Have you opened any good-for-you doors lately?

About Me

My photo
I have always been inspired by my Grandfather's particular generosity and encouragement, along with his love for others and nature. His spirit lives on, and the influence is quietly with me as I write and share. This is my small offering that I pray will bless others and allow them to become Simply Inspired. warmly, karen -xok.

Each day provides its own gifts.
